Lecco is not as famous as it’s rival cousin Como, but offers excellent restaurants, hotels and charming B&Bs. Some places worth mentioning are here in the site, for example Il Giardino, Soqquadro, Ristorante Larius, Hotel NH Pontevecchia and Hotel Restaurant Griso in Malgrate.
Hiking, Cycling, Sailing and Sport
Lecco is at he foot of the Ressegone and Grigna moutnains. The Ressegone and Grigna are a popular hiking areas known for its many caves and crevices as well as being host to an annual event called Sky Running- a marathon distance run where runners run UP the mountain! Winners receive the prestigious award, the Scaccabarozzi Trophy.
Every year Lecco host a marathon, half marathon and a triathlon as well many other running events.
Cycling is also a popular sport in this area and there are many excursions and routes to take along the lake. The Giro d’Italia passes through Lecco and the streets are lined with cheering fans from all over the world.
Regatta are organized and hosted by the Canotieri club, as well as competitive and non-competitive tennis, swimming and rowing. An annual cross-lake Lecco to Malgrate swim is organised as well.
Tourism & Shopping
The city of Lecco is known as being the setting for one of the most famous works of Italian literature Alessandro Manzoni’s tragic, romantic story of Renzo and Lucia I Promessi Sposi, known in English as The Betrothed. Although the story is fictional, the locations and landmarks are real and are still standing and preserved as historical monuments, as is the villa of the Manzoni family which is now a museum and park. The historical center and lake shore is lined with shops and cafes. The main shopping district is Via Roma, Via Cattaneo, Via Cairoli and Via Mascari as well as Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Cerminate.
