LAKE COMO TOURS

While you are in Lecco, you can see and do lots of cultural and fun activities:

Percorso Manzoniano – Walking Manzoni’s Promessi Sposi

Thanks to Alessandro Manzoni’s epic romance I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), one of the most famous works of Italian literature, the local sights of Lecco have been imortalized. If you have read the book and are familiar with the characters and settings, it is most interesting to visit; Villa Manzoni, Piazza Manzoni, Torre Viscontea, A. Visconti bridge, Pescarenico and the Pescarenico church, the small fishing village at the end of Via dell’Isola where Fra Cristoforo’s convent and the church of Santi Materno and Lucia is found. .In the area of Olate is Lucia’s presumed birthplace, and the church of Don Abbondio (Santi Vitale e Valeria) where Lucia and Renzo are married, and not far is the Palace of Don Rodrigo. Castello dell’Innominato (Vercurago)

(Photo above) To visit the Castello dell’Innominato (the Unnamed the vilan character form I Promessi Sposi -The Betrothed) you need to go 5km to Vercurago (by bus 1 to Chiusa and 15 min walk to Vercurago). Go to the Santuario San Girolamo Emiliani and walk up the pathway to the top, there is a stone staircase that brings you up further to the top where you will see a spectacular view of Lecco and the surrounding area. (Not reccomended if you don’t like light hiking.)

La Passagiata-City walking

“La Passagiata” is an important part of Italian culture in every city. It is the early evening or after dinner stroll in the center of town. Families and friends meet in the main square (Piazza XX Settembre or Piazza Garibaldi) to take an easy stroll while chatting about the day, window shopping and occasionaly pausing to say hello to old friends. It is a pleasant routine especially in the warm summer months.

Shopping

Lecco is full of shops! The central shopping district starts at Piazza Manzoni and runs up along Via Roma where you will find designer boutiques such as Max & Co., Luisa Spangoli, Penny Black, Nadine, Big Bag, Ferri, Chicco. Via Cairoli, Via Mascari and Via Cattaneo are also full of shops. See our shopping directory here
