Overlooking the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni outdoor swimming pool and the crystalline waters of Lake Como, La Goletta offers a chic dining experience.
Ettore Bocchia, a Michelin star chef, and pioneer of molecular cuisine in Italy is at the helm of La Goletta.
As executive chef for the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloini, he oversees both the poolside restaurant La Goletta as well as the Michelin star restaurant Mistral on the upper-level.
The name La Goletta means “schooner”. The nautical interior design transports you on a journey to tradition and elegance. Comfortable, antique revival furnishings and maritime decor offer a warm and gracious atmosphere, while the outdoor poolside dining offers a cool and relaxed ambiance for both cocktails and dinners.
I was invited to enjoy a poolside lunch at La Goletta with Carla, the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni liaison.
The menu offers a range of fish dishes, meats, homemade pasta, and vegetarian selections. Carla’s recommendations for starters included the BaccalĂ , sautèd cod and the Piovra, octopus salad. She also recommends the Pinza, a light-dough pizza made with fresh toppings. (I’ll have to go back another time for that!)
I was really interested in tasting a typical, local dish. We shared the BaccalĂ and for our main course the Riso alla Bellagina, a light risotto with the fresh catch of the day.

The catch of the day was Salmerino (Salvelinus alpinus) fresh from the lake. Mr. Bocchia visited our table and excitedly explained, “Good choice! The Salmerino came in just this morning! Our local fishermen go out early and we prepare it fresh, right away.”
For dessert, I chose a dreamy tiramisĂą and Carla ordered the homemade ice cream.
The service was executed with care, attention and professionality. La Goletta and the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni are a true find.
